Strengthening Local Capacity to Fight HIV/AIDS

Since early 2003, CHF International has been active in combating HIV/AIDS, the most pressing public health and developmental challenge of our time. CHF understands the need for a multi-sectoral response to HIV/AIDS, and so we are bringing our 55-year history of fostering community partnerships, promoting economic empowerment, and enhancing key infrastructure to bear as we work to address the entire continuum of prevention, treatment and care.

CHF’s programs work to address the root causes that make people vulnerable to HIV/AIDS, including poverty, malnutrition, opportunistic infections, and inadequate shelter. A critical element of our approach is focused on fostering local ability and building sustainability, by strengthening the indigenous grassroots capacity of community-based and faith-based organizations to effectively combat the epidemic on their own. This is most evident in our current HIV/AIDS programming in Kenya and Rwanda.

As the HIV epidemic continues to spread, disproportionately affecting low socio-economic communities, CHF International strives to find tailored interventions that fit the communities we serve.  Beginning with the end result in mind, we work in partnership with local actors, focusing on their goals and ultimate capacity to manage external funding and mitigate the effects of AIDS within their community.
