CHF International has received a number of international awards and commendations for its work all over the world.
El Salvador workers

2006

  • The Romanian Ministry of Culture honored CHF International for our contribution to the protection and preservation of Romania's cultural heritage.
  • SANABEL, the Arab Microfinance Network, names Mrs. Dhafeera Khalaf Mehdi, a client of CHF's Access to Credit Services Initiative, their Microentrepreneur of the Year for Iraq

2005

  • Citibank presents a client of CHF International's Colombian microfinance lending program, MICRODES, with their Microentrepreneur of the Year award.
  • The World Bank's Development Marketplace - Livelihoods in Sustainable Environment funded award of $140,000 for project Waste Wool for Warmth presented by CHF-Bosnia on behalf of partner Business Association UPUT in Travnik. Sheep wool non-useable for other purposes is obtained through local coop and converted into isolation material used in housing.
  • The National Assocatiation for Rural, Ecological and Cultural Tourism in Romania (ANTREC) honored CHF International Romania for the continuous support to the development of Rural Tourism in Romania.
  • The National Association of Travel Agencies in Romania awarded CHF their best Regional Promotionalprize for our promotion activities in Maramures Region, North Romania.
  • The Central European Advocacy for Fair and Transparent Competition (CEFTAC) awarded CHF/Romania for having the most flexible company/banking scheme aimed at supporting the development of Romanian companies in the field of Competition and Competitiveness.
  • The United Nations awards Zainab Barat Painda Khan, one of CHF's Afghanistan Microfinance Initiative beneficiaries, with their 2005 Global Microentrepreneurship Award.

2004

  • The World Bank commends CHF's Fondo Prosperidad program in Honduras as one of the 12 most successful projects that year.

2002

  • United Nations Dubai Award for Best Practice for Habitat, for our Home Improvement Lending Program in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. It was the only program chosen in Mexico.
  • Rural Productivity Award, Guatemalan organizations AMVI and CORDISA, created by CHF International, each won a Rural Productivity Award and cash prizes in a competition sponsored by the World Bank and the Soros Foundation.

2001

  • Global Development Network Award from the World Bank. The Romania Integrated Non-governmental Organizations and Economic Development Program was selected as one of the three most innovative projects in the world. The program was chosen from over 350 projects from 73 different countries, and was the only one financed by USAID, and also the only project located in Europe to achieve such high international recognition.
  • Honorary Mention from the Inter-American Development Bank. Mexican organization FUNHAVI, created by CHF International, won and Honorary Mention from the Inter-American Development Bank for Microfinance work.
  • Innovative Microfinance Services, Inter-American Development Bank, Honorable Mention, IV Inter-American Forum on Microenterprise, for CHF International's pioneering Home Improvement Lending Program in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico.
  • World Habitat Award, Honorable Mention, sponsored by the Building and Social Housing Foundation, a research institute based in the United Kingdom, to identify innovative and successful human settlement projects around the world that could be adapted and replicated elsewhere. CHF International was recognized for our Assisted Self-Help Housing Program in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

2000

  • Award for Project Innovation in Development Finance, First Annual Jordan Microentrepreneur Awards, Outstanding Microentrepreneur, Outstanding Loan Officer. Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan and First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton recognized CHF International's outstanding work through our Southern Jordan Access to Credit Project.

1999

  • Merit and Efficiency Award, World Food Programme for CHF International's work in El Salvador following the destruction of Hurricane Mitch. CHF International assisted more than 400 community members in the reconstruction of their homes and their neighbors' houses, with the families receiving food in exchange for their efforts.
  • Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, Special Consultative Status.

1998

  • Dubai Award for Excellence in Improving the Living Environment, for our work in Poland, Affordable Housing for a New, Democratic Poland: A Market Approach Using Public-Private Partnerships and Nongovernmental Organizations. CHF International's experience is included in the best practices database of the United Nations Center for Human Settlements (Habitat).

1997

  • Housing and Urban Management Advisory Network (HUMAN) appointment, of the U.N. Economic Commission for Europe.

1994

  • World Habitat Award, Building and Social Housing Foundation, Finalist, for CHF International's model cooperative housing project in Zory, Poland. This demonstration project, which was replicated nationally, was the first of its kind in post-Communist Poland. It was designed to show the advantages of housing delivery based on private ownership, democratic principles, and the free market. The newly constructed houses were attractive and affordable, and their designs reflected the choices of their owners (a revolutionary principle at the time).

1991

  • Habitat Scroll of Honor, United Nations Center for Human Settlements, recognizing CHF International for its community-based, participatory approach to economic and community development, and for demonstrating a people-oriented approach in the implementation of the Cooperative Neighborhood improvement and Job Program in Central America.
